Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics, 2011. - 193 p.Tamang is a Tibeto-Burman language spoken by over a million people in central Nepal. The two major varieties of Tamang are Eastern Tamang with approximately 759,000 speakers and Western Tamang with approximately 323,000 speakers (2000 census) which are mutually unintelligible languages. Eastern Tamang is divided into two dialects, Outer-Eastern Tamang and Central-Eastern Tamang (Varenkamp 1996:45). The dialect described here is Central-Eastern Tamang which is spoken in the Kabhre District of Nepal.
Some linguistic research has been done on Tamang phonology, grammar, and dictionaries; however, most of the research on Tamang grammar has been done in piecemeal fashion. Furthermore, very little research has been done on Eastern Tamang syntax.
