Taking the material on information technology (IT) contained in an earlier National Academies report titled Making the Nation Safer: The Role of Science and Technology in Countering Terrorism as a point of departure and penned by the same panel that formulated that section of the report, this spin-off report examines the role of IT as part of the national infrastructure; suggests important areas of research such as information and network security, IT for emergency response, and information fusion; and provides recommendations for how to spur such research"
